Poor Kerning
This was a flyer downstairs by the photolabs. it has some serious kerning issues. the poor soul who made this obviouslly does not know professor bosler but is in need of some help. it has areas where it should be tracked in and other areas where it needs to be tracked out. ive marked the spaces that are too close or too far spread out.

"Good" Typography
This is the inside of the cd cover of one of my favorite bands, mayday parade. i really like how the titles of the songs are all a variation of sizes and fit well in the space. then all the lyrics are underneath each title. also i like the colors and illustration inside the text. the random-ness is nice. i like the effort they put into the inside of the cd that no one will see unless they buy it. maybe im just bias because its my favorite band but i think it looks really nicely done.

Hand Rendered Typography
This is just a kind of doodle in my visual thinking notebook of my name, but i really liked the look of it and how it turned out. so i ended up kinda of building on the idea and using it for one final choices for my business card project. i developed it a bit more and made it more fancy. i chose this one to include because it was kind of the beginning of the inspiration process for me.

Historically influenced typography.
i think this poser is historically influenced by the de stijl period. it took place during the 1900's and i think this poster was inspired by the period because of the flat geometric design. the primary colors also make it unique to the de stijl period. lastly the strong horizontal and verticals is yet another characteristic of the period. public safety did a good job mimicking the style.

Example of "Bad Typography"

I searched campus to find an example of bad typography, and this poster is what I found.

The fonts chosen don't really compliment each other, and the sizing makes it a bit illegible. The spacing and alignment of the main head lines seams real off. When you get up real close to the words to look at them in more detail the spacing isn't done well. This may just be because the font used is made that way, but regardless the kerning and tracking should be adjusted.

While searching campus for naturally occurring letter forms I found a lot of t's, l's, and s'. So I was excited when I spotted an x. My friend Sam was wearing this sweater (my sweater haha) and I noticed that the button in the center formed the x. yay.
